Dear Spencer County Schools Families and Community,

The safety and security of our students and staff is our highest priority. As we begin the 2026โ€“2027 school year, we are providing the following information as part of our responsibility to comply with Kentucky state law.

Please know that this notification is a routine legal requirement. Kentucky law requires schools to provide families with information regarding terroristic threatening laws and penalties, as well as requirements for traceable electronic communication between school employees and students.

We want to make sure our families and community have this information and understand why these requirements are in place.

Kentucky law requires school employees to use approved, traceable communication platforms when communicating electronically with students. This helps ensure that student communications are safe, appropriate, and properly documented.

Kentucky law also requires schools to provide written notice to students, parents, and guardians regarding the laws concerning terroristic threatening and the penalties associated with these offenses. We want our families and students to understand the seriousness of threats made toward schools, students, or staff, including threats made electronically or through social media.

Please take a few minutes to review the information provided below. These notifications are an important part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment for every student and staff member.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep Spencer County Schools safe.

Congratulations to Jennifer Gable โ€” August 2026 Row the Boat Recipient!

Last night at the Spencer County Board of Education meeting, bus driver Jennifer Gable was presented with the August 2026 Row the Boat Award.

Jennifer was the driver involved in last weekโ€™s bus accident, and throughout the incident, she demonstrated incredible courage, professionalism, and dedication to our students. Her quick thinking and calm response helped ensure that our students were kept safe and cared for during a frightening situation.

Jenniferโ€™s actions are a powerful example of what it means to Row the Boat โ€” putting students first, taking responsibility, supporting one another, and doing whatever it takes to move our students and our district forward.

We are incredibly grateful for Jennifer and the way she cares for our students each and every day.

Congratulations, Jennifer! We are proud to have you on our team!

A Historic Honor for Our Varsity Choir!

On Tuesday night, Mrs. Peters and our Varsity Choir celebrated an incredible achievementโ€”being selected as one of only THREE choirs from across the state to perform at the 2027 KMEA Conference!

This is an extraordinary honor for our students and our school, and it marks the first time in school history that our choir will perform at this prestigious conference. We couldnโ€™t be more proud of our talented singers and Mrs. Peters for all of their hard work and dedication!

Congratulations to Ashley Phillips of Spencer County Elementary!

Ashley has been selected as a recipient of the 2026 KSCA School Counseling Program Award โ€” an incredible honor recognizing Kentucky school counselors who are developing comprehensive counseling programs that make a meaningful difference in the lives of students.

As part of the award, Spencer County Elementary will receive $300 to support its comprehensive school counseling program and provide materials and supplies that benefit our students.

Ashley will also be recognized at the KSCA Awards Luncheon on September 11 during the 2026 KSCA Conference.

We are so proud of you, Ashley! Your dedication to supporting the academic, career, and social/emotional growth of our students is truly making a difference.

Please join us in congratulating Ashley Phillips on this well-deserved achievement!

Spencer County Community,

This morning, a Spencer County Schools bus was involved in an accident on Highway 44 near Hunters Trace Drive while traveling to Spencer County Elementary School. Approximately 40 students were on the bus at the time of the accident.

First responders arrived within moments and immediately began providing assistance. Spencer County Emergency Medical Services evaluated each student to determine whether any injuries required additional medical attention. We are thankful to report that no students were transported to a hospital or medical center. We are also happy to share that both drivers were alert, were evaluated by first responders, and did not require transport for additional medical care.

After arriving at school, each student received additional follow-up care from school staff. Students were reunited with school staff and/or their parents, and our team will continue to support them and their families throughout the day.

We know that news of a school bus accident is concerning for our families and our entire community. We are incredibly grateful for the quick response and care provided by the Spencer County Sheriffโ€™s Office, Taylorsville Police Department, Taylorsville-Spencer County Fire Department, and Spencer County EMS. Their professionalism and immediate attention to our students and both drivers were greatly appreciated.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We are thankful for everyone who responded this morning and for the care shown to our students during a difficult and unexpected situation.
