This week we are launching our 10th year of One Book One School ! At SCMS, we believe in the power of stories, and we can't wait to embark on this journey together.

๐Our book this year is An Elephant in the Garden, a historical fiction novel by Michael Morpurgo
๐You're invited to read along with us! The Read Along Guide was created for families to experience the book from home. You can access it by scanning the QR code on the bottom of your child's One Book One School bookmark, or click on the link. Every Monday through Thursday from April 7-23, a new chapter recording will be added.

In honor of Career Day, our Career Exploration students dove into the Space Race while exploring careers in the rocket and aerospace field! Some students designed and launched rockets, while others took on the role of scientistsโmaking observations, forming predictions, and drawing conclusions from each launch.
We even set a new school record with a launch of approximately 105 yards by 8th grader Easton Rose!
Watching their teamwork and excitement was incredible! Who knowsโฆ we may have some future NASA scientists right here in our classroom!
This morning, while transporting middle school choir students on a field trip, Bus 2072 experienced a blown heater hose that was initially reported as smoke but was later determined to be steam. Out of an abundance of caution, all students were safely evacuated.
The Taylorsville-Spencer County Fire Department responded to the scene along with district officials.
We would like to thank the driver for their quick actions, as well as the students for remaining calm and following instructions during the situation.

Out of an abundance of caution due to the timing of the snow moving through, Spencer County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay today, March 17, 2026. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Spencer County Hits the Mark at State!!!!
A huge congratulations to the archery teams from TES, SCMS, and SCHS who competed in the State Tournament in Louisville this weekend! We are proud to share that all three teams qualified for Nationals in both Bullseye and 3D, meaning their incredible season isn't over!
Even more exciting news came from SCMS, who placed 1st Place in Kentucky in the 3D competition!
AND....Adding to the celebration......SCMS student Kourtney Bickett earned 1st Place in Kentucky for the Middle School Girls 3D, shooting an impressive 290!!!!
WAY TO REPRESENT SPENCER COUNTY!!!

SCMS GT students recently visited Bernheim Forestย for the Giants Hike, exploring the trails and seeing the famous forest giants up close while learning about nature, art, and the outdoors.
SCMS GT students recently visited the KET Studio on a field trip! They toured the studio, and participated in a hands-on media literacy lab, learning how news and media are created and exploring ways to check fact vs. fiction.

Due to high levels of illness among our staff and students, Spencer County Public Schools will use NTI on Thursday, February 19, 2026, and Friday, February 20, 2026.

Career exploration labs are officially underway yet again! Its so exciting to watch students engage, build new skills, and make meaningful connections to possible futures through hands-on learning.

First, I want to thank you for your patience and flexibility as weโve navigated the recent winter weather. Our road crews and maintenance teams have been working tirelessly, and we are excited to welcome everyone back to the classroom!
Spencer County Schools will reopen on Monday, February 2, 2026, on a 2-hour delay.
While the main roads are clearing nicely, this delay is a strategic decision centered on safety. By pushing our start time back by two hours, we provide our bus drivers with the benefit of full daylight. This extra visibility is crucial for navigating narrow routes and managing turnarounds that may still be partially obstructed by large piles of plowed snow.
Important Points for Monday:
Start Time: All schools will begin exactly two hours later than their normally scheduled time.
Bus Pick-up: Your childโs bus will arrive approximately two hours later than the usual morning pick-up.
Our drivers are the best in the business, and we want to ensure they have every advantage as they get our students to school safely. Please continue to exercise caution on your morning commute and keep an eye out for those yellow buses.

Spencer County Schools will be closed on Friday, January 30, 2026. This will be a traditional snow day.
