This week in Math, Mrs. Lyversโ 2nd grade class has been working on addition and subtraction within 100 and solving story problems. The students were active collaborators in their small groups as they did three reads of their problem, used the CUBES strategy to make sense of the problem, and then solved using one of three strategies/tools used in class: base ten blocks, connecting cubes, and tape diagrams. Once they solved, groups were effective communicators and empowered learners as they shared and evaluated their thinking with the rest of the class.ย
