It's HOMECOMING WEEK! There's a LOT going on this week, so you're getting your schedule a day early. Each day has a chance to support our students, and a special one is the soccer double header on Thursday. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Nathan Lane Wimsatt Scholarship Fund, so come out and catch some girls and boys soccer action.

Mrs. Harrodโ€™s senior English classes have completed their resumes and cover letters for senior project. Today they presented and practiced theirย ย skills by participating in a mock job interview with their fellow classmates. They created their own questions to ask and then reflected on their role. Kendall Slaughter, a current junior at SCHS and the reigning United States of Americaโ€™s Teen Kentucky 2024, presented the Spencer County Educational Foundation (SCEF) with a donation of $1,675 at their board meeting on September 9th. While participating in the national United States of Americaโ€™s Teen pageant this July, Kendall was recognized as a Top 6 National Finalist, a Presidential Volunteer Service Award winner and the overall 2024 Peopleโ€™s Choice Award winner. Winners of the Peopleโ€™s Choice Award are given the opportunity to donate a portion of the awardโ€™s proceeds to a charity or non-profit organization of their choice. Kendall chose the SCEF as the recipient of her award donation and shared the following: โ€œAs the daughter of two educators and as a Spencer County student, I have seen firsthand how much this organization has done for our school district in its first 5 short years of existence. It is my honor to present these funds to the SCEF. Rest assured that I will continue to support the amazing work that the SCEF is doing and I want to thank each of you for your dedication to students like me. You truly are making a difference!โ€ Thank you, Kendall, for choosing to bless the SCEF with this kind and generous donation!

There are lots of great things going on in our Ag department! Mrs. Hamilton's dual credit Ag Leadership class has been giving speeches on agricultural topics for the local Farm Bureau's Outstanding Youth contest. Her Ag Employability classes were also visited on Thursday by Mark & Nick Stowe, of M&J Landscaping, who came in to talk about their business, how it operates, assets and liabilities, and the joys & discomforts of being an entrepreneur. We love having community members involved in our school!

Our next shout-out belongs to Aubrey Ernst. Aubrey is a senior at SCHS who is concentrating in both the Horticulture and Agribusiness Systems career pathways. She has been completing a co-op with Chickapoo Farm for one year, where she assists with succession planting, fertilizing, harvesting, as well as year-round planning and marketing. Aubrey also designs fresh floral arrangements that are placed in local businesses for sale. "I want to express my sincere appreciation to Spencer County High School and the FFA. This mentorship program has positively impacted both my personal and professional growth which I am so grateful for. Your commitment to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment is evident through each interaction that Iโ€™ve had with your faculty/staff. It has been one year since Aubrey began working with me, and I am truly impressed by her character, intelligence, work ethic and kindness. I firmly believe that along with loving and dedicated parents like Aubreyโ€™s, โ€œit takes a villageโ€ to raise a child, and I am grateful for the contributions that your school is making in helping to do so." -Gwen Weisenburger Runner, Owner of Chickapoo Farm Thank you, Gwen, for your partnership with Spencer County Public Schools! #TogetherWeCan

Friday night lights are back, yโ€™all! We canโ€™t think of a better way to kick off the home season than with a win over Collins. Despite the win, we hated to see Tanner get injured last night during the first half. Our thoughts and prayers are with him today, and we are hoping for a full recovery. Thank you to medical personnel who attended to him, and to the Collins players and staff who showed their support as he was taken off the field.

As we get back into football season, be aware of fake profiles with links to tickets/ streaming services, like in the image. The best way to watch the Bears is in person, but our games are streamed on GHP Sports, and tickets can be bought on GoFan. Don't fall victim to scammers!
